HOA Curbside Slash Chipping Program: June 30th, 2014. Back by popular demand! We are pleased to announce that the Curbside Slash Chipping Program is confirmed for the end of June. The HOA Board is building on the success of last year’s event where we saw 63 out of our 95 property owners participate and removed over 2060 cubic yards of slash from the neighborhood. Our Curbside Slash Chipping Program is designed to help you maximize your efforts mitigating your property and minimizing the time and energy spent dealing with the slash. Invest your time into clearing out trees and brush in your defensible space zone, limbing up trees in Zones 2 and 3, clearing out beetle kill and dead trees, and then just get the slash and brush to the curb. Phil and Jane Pitzer from High Timber Firewood and Logging will chip and haul the slash and brush from there. There is no additional cost to participate in this program The HOA was awarded a grant again this year from Boulder County Forest Health in the amount of $6000 through their Community Chipping Reimbursement Program. This is a 50/50 matching grant. In lieu of using general funds this year our HOA will contribute in-kind match of 270 volunteer hours during our Community Workdays. HOA Community Workday / Saws and Slaws Event: Saturday, June 28th from 8AM to Noon with a Potluck BBQ to follow. Building on the success of last year’s Community Workday / Saws and Slaws Event, we will once again come together as neighbors and friends to mitigate the forests. This year’s 2nd Event will focus on helping homeowners in the HOA mitigate their Defensible Space (D-Space) Zones 1 and 2. We will meet at the intersection of Cougar Run and Conifer Rd at 8AM for our organizational and safety meeting. At this meeting, we’ll form teams and be assigned areas to mitigate. Teams will be dropping marked trees only, limbing the trees, bucking the logs in 4′ lengths, and staging the slash along the roadway for pickup during our Curbside Slash Chipping Program. We will work until noon and then meet at a host home (to be announced at the event) for a potluck lunch/BBQ. That’s it, 4 hours of work followed by a well deserved BBQ lunch. On May 21st Chris Francis, age 11, captured this video of a mountain lion in his backyard on Ridge Rd. This Mountain lion has been seen repeatedly over the last month and a half. The latest sighting was today around 1PM crossing Ridge Rd (again between the 2 Cougar Run entrances). Thanks Chris and Lauren for the video!
